1 & 2 Samuel: After God's Own Heart

In 1 & 2 Samuel, a transition takes place from the period of the judges with Samuel as the last judge to the monarchy with Saul as the first king. Ultimately, though, David is crowned as king and the "house of David" begins. Why was Saul rejected? Why was David chosen over Saul? What made David a man after God's own heart? How can we be men and women after God's heart? Which king are we choosing to rule over us?
